1856 - Johann Stupp, a German immigrant, founds his new company, J.
Stupp and Brother, Blacksmiths in St. Louis, Missouri
1861 - Stupp helps to build seven ironclad gunboats for the Civil War
under the auspices of James B. Eads.
1875 - Stupp loses business
to unscrupulous lender.
1876 - Stupp opens Ornamental
Iron and Zinc Works.
1882 - All three of Johann's
sons, George, Peter and Julius, are members of the firm and the name is
changed to Stupp Brothers South St. Louis Iron Works.
1886 - Stupp is now the major
bridge builder in St. Louis.
